Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what we never collect — in plain English.
This Privacy Policy explains how Junction (the "Site", "we", "us") collects, uses and shares information when you visit or interact with — (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to the terms set out below.
1. Information we collect
- Usage data: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, referring page, timestamp) used to keep the Service running and to diagnose issues.
- Search queries: the words you submit to the in-site search box. We use these to return results and to debug search relevance. We do not associate them with your account unless you are signed in.
- Cookies: a small number of cookies set by us and by our advertising and analytics partners. See the Cookies section below.
We do not knowingly collect special-category personal data (health, political beliefs, etc.) through the Service.
2. How we use the information
- To deliver the article, search and category pages you requested.
- To count how many readers each waypoint reaches, in aggregate.
- To detect and prevent abuse, scraping and security incidents.
- To improve search relevance and editorial coverage.
3. Cookies
We use a small set of cookies:
- Strictly necessary — to remember your locale and consent state.
- Analytics — to count visits in aggregate. You may opt out by enabling "Do Not Track" or using an ad-blocker.
- Advertising — third parties (currently Google) may set cookies to measure sponsored results. See the Advertising section.
4. Advertising
Sponsored links on the search and article pages are served by third-party advertising networks. These networks may set or read cookies, use device identifiers, and use aggregated browsing data to decide which sponsored links to show. They do not receive your name or contact details from us.
Sponsored links are clearly labelled. Clicking a sponsored link takes you to the advertiser's destination. We do not endorse the products or claims made on those destination pages.
5. Analytics
We use aggregated, privacy-respecting analytics to count visits and to measure how readers move through the atlas. We do not use analytics to build personal profiles for advertising.
6. Third-party services
Our Service depends on a small number of third-party providers, including our hosting, our search advertising partner, and our analytics provider. Each operates under its own terms and privacy policy.
7. Data retention
Server logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging, then deleted. Aggregated analytics may be retained indefinitely.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission over the internet, however, is 100% secure.
9. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
10. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. To make a request, contact us via the address listed on the About page.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the bottom will reflect any change. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site for at least 14 days.
12. Contact
Questions about this policy can be sent through the editorial desk. We aim to respond within 30 days.
